Design of the Average Fire Pit
The design of the average fire pit is excellent for a backyard fire where most people are standing, but it doesn’t lend itself well to an arrangement of outdoor lounge chairs. Most designs put the fire close to the ground like an ordinary fire. If you regularly have a large group of friends over and it’s standing room on, then they are terrific, but for smaller groups who like to lounge in a comfortable chair, then a fire that is low to the ground is not optimum. That’s where the fire pit table comes in. A fire pit table is exactly that. It’s a fire pit with a table surrounding it.
The table puts the fire further up from the ground, making the heat more available to seated guests. Some table designs only function to get the fire up off the ground level, but others incorporate enough features for it to be used as a patio table as well. A few models are available that are large enough to be used as your outdoor dining table.
Fire Pit Tables
You can get fire pit tables in wood-burning or gas-burning models. Wood is a popular choice of fuel because of the ambience it provides. Nothing beats the crackle and pop of a real wood fire, but it does have its disadvantages. Flying sparks and embers can be a danger, so wood fires require an extra mesh cover. Smoke can also be a concern, and many people might not appreciate going indoors smelling like a forest fire has just gone through the area. Cleaning can also be a pain. Ash is an annoying product of wood fires and will need to be cleaned out. If you have a garden, you can always mix the ash with your compost for excellent fertilizer.
Gas fire pit tables are becoming more popular because they don’t produce smoke, so you don’t need to clean them at the end of the night. You also won’t need to change your clothes right away because of the smell of smoke. A gas fire pit is also great for portability. You can take it camping with you, and a gas bottle is easier to transport than a load of firewood.
Not only can a fire pit table be a useful addition to your outdoor area, but it can also enhance your decor. There are numerous ways you can enhance your outdoor living. But please remember to stay safe, it is important that you keep a fire extinguisher to hand when in the garden.
